My experience so far has been amazing, the course is very well presented by all of the lecturers which makes it a lot easier to understand and be successful in my course work and assignment. My goal was to join the Police Force, and I feel that not only will this HND help me to do that, but it will also help me to progress in my career, working my way up through the ranks.” At present I have decided to make a career in the Prison Service my HND has enabled me to gain a place on a graduate entry program for prison managers. The depth of knowledge and content of the Public Services course was a great advantage in interview process and training. I am now (2017) an under governor in a midland prison, I have settled with my husband and daughter an am pursuing a full career in the prison service, this demonstrates the inclusivity of HND, I was a working mum with basic BTEC qualifications and now I am classed as a high flyer.

I started my educational journey as a level 2 student on a BTEC Public Services Course, with the help of my lectures I progressed onto a full HND course in Public Services, I am a martial arts practitioner and the HND course gave me the flexibility in studying to pursue other interests and I decided to take a year off and study in China. I returned in 2016 to continue my studies with the goal of gaining a commission in HM Forces, the variation and disciplines of the Public Services Course enabled me to complete Regular Commissions Board and I have been accepted for training in the Parachute Regiment, the chances and opportunities of level 5 course have enabled me to achieve my goal, I will continue to study for a full degree at a later date as there are clear progression routes. My HND is a qualification for life and where ever my skills journey takes me I will always value my public services qualification.

I chose to do an HND in Public Services because I wanted to continue enjoying my education with lecturers that I know can get the best out of me. It also gave me the chance to continue working with friends I had already made during my BTEC course. I knew the Public & Emergency Services HND would help me with entry into the Police Force and it’s also more affordable than other local options. I have really enjoyed my experience here and have learnt a lot whilst gaining some excellent qualifications. After completing the HND I continued onto a third year and gained a full degree at the University of Gloucester, ultimately with the goal of joining the Police Force at graduate entry.
